Listen:
Many times I would say, ‘You have ears and eyes. Use them. Learn to listen and hear’.
In this image an elephant is listening to the song of a tiny robin. Listening and hearing is a learnt skill.
As humans we are not taught to listen to ourselves let alone the tiny things around us. The things that are said – the clues that are left. If we were to just listen we may just learn a lot more about a person or a situation. It may make us wiser. It may help us walk away quicker. It may help us understand and judge less.
As a therapist I had to learn to listen and here is a clue: Often when the couple had left I had to think back at what I remembered most about a session. Often it seemed irrelevant at the time. However this was the clue. Had I not learn’t to listen, a tiny clue would be missed and a major element of what I needed to hear would’ve be dismissed.
We say a lot about ourselves without even knowing. We express so much in little ways. Hoping that there will be someone out there that will hear. Learn to listen as we all leave clues about ourselves. Some clues may be difficult to hear. It may mean that you have to walk away from someone you thought you may be falling in love with. Hear it now as it may save you a lot of pain later on.
